December School News

Advent Services

The school children will once again be sharing the story of Jesus’ birth on the three Advent Wednesdays this coming year. Our theme focuses us on the carols we sing during the Christmas season and how they point us to Jesus. Here is a calendar of when the students will be sharing the good news of our Savior’s birth:

November 30th – 5th-8th Grade , December 7th – K-1st Grade, December 8th – PreK Service, December 14th – 2nd – 4th Grade

Salem’s Band Christmas Concert

Salem’s students have been taught this year by St. Croix Lutheran Academy band instructors. This allows them to be a part of the Christmas Band Concert at St. Croix Lutheran on December 13th. If you would like to hear the  middle school band play some wonderful Christmas music, make plans to attend the concert at St. Croix Lutheran on December 13th at 6:30pm.

Jump Up Day/Crusader for a Day

On December 2nd, 8th grade students will have the opportunity to go to St. Croix Lutheran to experience what high school will be like. On this day, we also have our grade school students “Jump up” to the next grade level to get to know their teacher for the upcoming school year and get to know the classroom as well. This is a great event for the students who enjoy being in the grade above them for a little time during the day.

Christmas Bake Sale

Salem Parent Teacher Organization (SPTO) will be hosting Christmas bake sales after the Advent service on December 14th, at basketball games the evening of December 16th and possibly at worship services on the 17th and 18th. They will need lots of baked goods for this event! Please plan to drop off some contributions the week of December 12th. Watch for more information coming soon!

Basketball Concessions Help Needed

We still need volunteers for basketball concessions! Please see the link below for what time slots still need help. We also welcome donations for concession sales. Aldi and Walmart gift cards are great! Please drop off in the school office.

Enrollment for 2023-2024

Returning school families enrollment will open for the 2023-2024 school year on January 5th. Look for a re-enrollment email from TADS that first week back from break to make your re-enrollment process easier. New families may begin enrolling on February 1st.

Preschool enrollments are first come first serve. If you have a preschool family interested in our school for the 2023-2024 school year, please have them contact Jane Grobe for a tour (jgrobe@salemlutheran.org) or have them request a tour through our website. Referral Program

The School Board approved a program that gives an incentive to recruiting new families for our school. If a family who has children enrolled refers a new family to Salem, they will receive a $200 tuition credit at Christmas per family they have referred. A church family who refers a new family will receive a $200 script gift card also at Christmas per family if they so choose. There is no limit to the number of families you can refer. If you have any more questions about the program, speak to a School Board member or Mr. Klatt.

We Are Also Collecting Aluminum Cans and Pop Tabs

Aluminum cans benefit our athletic program and can be bagged up and placed in the wooden bin that is next to the garage facing Panama Ave. Mrs. Hasselquist and her class support The Ronald McDonald House by participating in the Pop Tab program. She has done this for over 16 years and they has collected over 200 lbs of pop tabs. The cash received goes directly to support Ronald McDonald House. They can be brought to the bin at the entrance to school or to her classroom.

Prayer

One way we usually forget about how we can help our school and church is to pray for them throughout the year. Your prayers are always a blessing and it is great to know that you are asking God for his blessings in our school and church year.
