Mission
Equipping the soul, mind and body for a lifetime and beyond in Christ.
Objectives
In keeping with Salem Lutheran School's mission statement and philosophy, the objectives of the school are:
1. to assist parents in the Christian training of their children;
2. to nurture and strengthen the faith of each child;
3. to cultivate in the children a positive self-image as redeemed children of God;
4. to provide systematic and thorough instruction of God's Word;
5. to strive for excellence in the curriculum by providing Christian training in all secular subjects;
6. to give children an opportunity to live their faith in daily Christian fellowship;
7. to teach children to use their time, talents and treasures to glorify God in a life of faithful service and Christian witness;
8. to encourage children to live as obedient citizens of their country; and
9. to strengthen the congregation and the church-at-large through the training of their future members.
Philosophy
Salem Lutheran School has a two-fold philosophy. First, we believe man is by nature a sinful and condemned creature and needs a Savior. God our Father in his great love sent his Son, Jesus, to redeem the world. God, the Holy Spirit, through the Word brings us to believe in Jesus and guides us in Christian living. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 tells us, "These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children."
Secondly, we believe our loving God has given parents the primary responsibility to impress these truths upon their children and equip them for a life lived according to God's Word. The Bible directs us in Proverbs 22:6, "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it."
Organization
Salem Lutheran School - through the Church Council - is operated, maintained and supported by Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). The daily administration of school business is split between two groups; the Education Committee and the Board of Education. The Education Committee is entrusted with the day-to-day activities of the school. This committee consists of a chairman who is elected by the congregation and six additional members appointed by the Church Council and ratified by the congregation. The Board of Education is responsible over the teaching staff. The principal acts as the agent of the congregation and Education Committee in the direct administration of the school. The Pastors are responsible for all spiritual leadership. With input from all responsible parties, the Church Council makes decisions on behalf of the school. Full and final control, however, is vested in the congregation's voter assembly.
Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church established Salem Lutheran School in 1974 with classes for grades K-5. In 1996, a major building addition including a Family Center, Media Center, Meeting Room and Classrooms was completed. At present, a Christian education is provided to children ages 3-5 at the preschool and Kindergarten through 8th grade in the main school building. The Salem School staff includes 16 full and part-time members plus many volunteers.
Salem Parent Organization
All parents are urged to attend and participate in the Salem Parent Organization (SPO). This organization meets several times during the school year. These meetings feature educational and informational topics that are considered to be of interest to its members and benefit of the school. Parents are also given the opportunity to consult teachers and to become better acquainted with Salem's principles of education. Meeting dates and activities will be announced and published in the school newsletter and church bulletin during the school year.
