Since its acquisition in 2004, Salem Oaks Ministries has become a beloved part of Salem’s story. The 77-acre property on Manning Avenue has hosted a wide variety of gatherings and activities over the years.
Throughout the early 2000s, Salem Lutheran Pioneers made the land a home base for outdoor fellowship and leadership development. Through campouts, service projects, and outdoor activities, Pioneers groups built practical skills and lasting friendships under open skies. The property has provided the perfect backdrop for these young people to grow in faith while learning self-reliance, teamwork, and stewardship of God’s creation. Generations of Salem youth have made memories at Salem Oaks through their Pioneer experiences, memories that shape who they became as adults. One of their favorite events was tapping trees and making maple syrup every year.
Salem Oaks has also been the setting for countless moments of congregational life and fellowship. Summer worship services outside allowed us to worship in the glory of creation itself. Church picnics brought families together for food, conversation, and summer fun. Bonfires on cool evenings created space for singing, connection and community building. For many years, Salem’s Mission Fest was hosted there, as Salem celebrated God’s work in the world. Whether formal gatherings or informal moments of fellowship, Salem Oaks has become a natural gathering place where our congregation strengthens the bonds that tie us together.
A nature path winds through the property, offering quiet spots for reflection and prayer. Whether hosting organized events or simply providing open space for our community to gather, Salem Oaks is woven into the fabric of who we are as a congregation.
Looking Forward
As Salem continues to grow and evolve, we see this property as a source of potential and as a meaningful resource with deep roots in our community’s story. We continue to explore thoughtful ways the land might continue to serve our congregation and neighbors in the years ahead- always with an eye toward responsible stewardship, partnership, and respect for the land itself.
The future is unwritten, but the foundation is solid. Salem Oaks Ministries stands as a testament to Salem’s commitment to creating spaces where faith, community, and creation come together.
