Jesus the Source of Truth
Pastor Matt Hennig, Christ Lutheran - North St. Paul & Hugo
Jesus answered, “You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.” (John 18:37)
The First Word: Forgiveness
Pastor John Berg, Divinity Lutheran and St. John Lutheran - St. Paul
Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34)
The Second Word: Paradise
Pastor Jake Schram, Salem Lutheran - Stillwater
Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Jesus answered him, “I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.” (Luke 23:42,43)
The Third Word: Human Care
Pastor Mark Wessel, Christ Lutheran - North St. Paul & Hugo
When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, “Dear woman, here is your son,” and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home. (John 19:26,27)
The Fourth Word: Divine Suffering
Pastor Jake Schram, Salem Lutheran - Stillwater
About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?”—which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46)
The Fifth Word: Thirst
Pastor Jeff Mittelstadt, Christ Lutheran - North St. Paul & Hugo
Later, knowing that all was now completed, and so that the Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. (John 19:28,29)
The Sixth Word: Completion
Pastor Jon Brohn, Salem Lutheran - Stillwater
When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” (John 19:30)
The Seventh Word: Committal
Pastor Jon Hackbarth, Salem Lutheran - Woodbury
Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last. (Luke 23:46)
