How did he know?

I just started a daily Bible reading. I thought it might be a good way to enter the world of blogging--every day something new to think about. So far, I've journeyed through the first 17 chapters of Genesis. Moses wrote about the creation, the fall into sin, the first murder, Noah and the Flood, the Tower of Babel, God calling Abraham, Abraham rescues Lot, and the covenant of circumcision. The first 17 chapters of Genesis covers a lot of time. I'll venture a guess that the world is about 12,000 years old. These first 17 chapters of Genesis could cover almost 8000 years. How could Moses pinpoint each of these stories in such detail, when he lived about 600 years after Abraham?

There's only one good answer to that question--God told Moses what to write. No other sinful human being had such a close relationship with the LORD. "The LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks with his friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his young aide Joshua son of Nun did not leave the tent." (Exodus 33:11). Moses could write about the creation of the world because the LORD was there. He told Moses what to write so that his people would remember who the Creator was. Moses recorded the story of Adam and Eve and the fall into sin so that we could understand why we live in a sinful world today. Moses told about the flood--not copying it from some other ancient flood story--because God filled in all the details. Moses could record the history of Abraham because God told him all about it.

Could you imagine--God filling in all the details? Without God's details, we wouldn't have the Bible. Without God's details, we wouldn't have Jesus and the way to salvation. Thank God he let Moses and all the other inspired writers know exactly what he wanted them to record!
