Serve the LORD

Sunday School Teacher and Assistants
If you think your spiritual gift is teaching, then this opportunity is for you. Parents need assistance in teaching their children God's Word. They also need an opportunity to study the Bible in an adult setting. The children hear the Good News at a level they can comprehend and develop social skills while meeting with other Christian children their age. "Raise up a child in the way he should go and he will not depart from it in his old age." Each Sunday during the school year, teachers must be prepared to lead each class. Once a month, a teachers' class meets with Pastor to prepare for teaching the Bible lessons for the next month. The church equips the teachers and class with colorful curriculum materials. Teachers are expected to prepare for the class in advance. The assistants should also be familiar with the class material and must be ready to teach the class when an emergency comes up. Sunday School assistance is a great way to develop your gift of teaching.

Vacation Bible School
Salem offers a Vacation Bible School during the month of June. This is a special outreach to the community and an opportunity to tell children about Jesus. For some of these youth, this maybe the only time they will get to hear the wonderful Good News of the Gospel. Please consider giving of your time and talents to assist with the VBS week. Other skills are needed in addition to teaching so watch the Church bulletin for details as June approaches.

Not everyone is called to teach. Teaching is a gift from God. If you have this gift, you should strongly consider using it in service to the Lord.

Youth Leaders
The YPS needs energetic adults to meet with them. The goal of the YPS is to broaden the relationship between each young person and the Lord. Youth Leaders must be good examples of Christian living and have a sense of adventure. A number of leaders with a variety of interests will help the YPS grow and develop.

See the YPS page for information about their activities.

Pioneer Leaders
Pioneers is a scouting like organization that meets on Monday evenings during the school year. One Monday evening per month is reserved for the leaders to meet. If you like working with children, the Pioneers are looking for your leadership. Contact the church office to offer your help.

Property maintenance
From light cleaning to snow removal, there is always a need for help around the building and grounds. Contact the church office, signup on the bulletin board if you can commit to assisting with this work.

Evangelism
The Evangelism committee welcomes you to assist with some of its many tasks. We need people who can make phone calls, send out mailings, work on the website and bring the Good News to our community. If you are interested in any of these tasks or would like to attend a meeting with the committee to learn more about its work, contact the church office.

Meals on Wheels
Meals on Wheels is a program to bring wholesome food to people who live alone. Besides providing a nourishing meal, volunteers provide a social contact for the recipients. You need a vehicle to deliver meals and be able to commit to a schedule to deliver them. If you prefer to help with other aspects of the program, there are a variety of needs to be met. You can contact Human Services Inc by calling Roxanne at 651-439-2720. This program is not directly connected to the work at Salem, but several members participate in it.

Ushers, Greeters, Vestrymen and Nursery Attendants
Worship helpers are needed for every service conducted at Salem. Ushers have responsibility for preparing the chapel for worship, including checking the hymn boards, setting the lights and the sound system. They also handout the bulletins and other materials, take the offering and provide for an orderly dismissal. If communion is served, they assist in an orderly distribution. Other tasks may be assigned by the Pastor.

The greeters meet worshippers as they enter the sanctuary. This is a good opportunity for newer members to meet the 'older' members. The greeters encourage visitors to sign the guest register and answer questions. The ushers also greet the worshippers with a friendly smile as they enter.

The nursery is available to parents of young children. Sometimes parents need a time to worship without the stress of a toddler. You can help Salem provide a nurturing place for parents to take their toddlers. This service is required during the 10:30 a.m. worship service. A signup sheet is in the Fireside Room where the nursery is located.

Choir
The Sr. Choir meets once a week to prepare vocal selections that enhance the worship experience. The music is 3 and 4 part including the need for soprano, alto, tenor and base voices. Choir members need the ability to read music. The choir sometimes employs instrumental accompaniments such as brass, woodwinds and stringed instruments. Special music for the holiday seasons usually necessitates additional practice time and utilizes these instruments. If you like to sing and can attend rehearsals, contact Roger or attend a scheduled practice - normally on Wednesday evenings.

Men's Chorus
If you would like to serve by bringing glory to God in 4 part men's music, please contact one of the current members of this chorus or the church office.
