Waiting for so long

Galatians 4:4 "But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son."

Time. Sometimes it goes by so fast, we wonder where it goes. I looked at my last blog entry. Too much time has slipped by inbetween! Too much time has slipped by in my regular Bible reading. I'm catching up, but that takes more time. I think about Christmas. It's all about time, too. My children say, "I can't wait until Christmas! Why does it take so long for it to get here?" My wife and I look at each other and wish we had more time to make our preparations. Time.

I wonder what Mary felt like as she waited for the birth of her child. Did she want time to move quickly so she could meet this baby? Or, like some mothers, did she cherish the feeling of the baby fluttering around in her tummy and never want it to end? So many mothers before her had hoped for this news. So many fathers in Israel had wondered if their son would be the One.

The time had fully come. Mary had a baby. Her son. God's Son. What a miracle! It was time. The time has come for us--Christmas time. Time to celebrate the Word of God made flesh. Time to see the humanity and divinity of the Christ joined together in a wondrous way. Time to get down on our knees in humility and repentance before the Author of the Universe. Time for us to cherish the gift. It's time.

To God alone the glory!
